Abstract

The paper presents an approach to building a personal navigation system for people with visual impairments, based on a combination of computer vision and haptic feedback methods. The architecture of the system is proposed, which uses a smartphone sensor platform and a modified glove with vibration motors as a means of providing spatial information. The biophysical foundations of tactile perception are considered, on the basis of which the requirements for the frequency range, location of the motors and the structure of the vibration signal are formulated. The proposed system is scalable, energy-efficient and suitable for daily use in conditions of limited infrastructure.
